Live Like You’re Dying Day 6 – The Weekends

LeisureOriginally I had intended to post every day throughout this month.  But I ended up not logging into the blog over the weekend.  It was nice just to spend time with my wife and enjoy our town’s festival which was going on that weekend in celebration of… red underwear… Not sure why they ever choose that, but I won’t say what they actually call it or it would be pretty easy to see what town I live in.

But this past weekend off got me thinking, that weekends are designed for a purpose.  You need that break, mentally or perhaps physically depending on the work you do, to recharge.  And if I was actually dying I wouldn’t be spending much time on here anyways.  Although I think it would be nice to leave something in writing for loved ones showing your thoughts during your last days.  But it is of utmost importance to live now, more than ever.

And living now doesn’t necessarily mean spending huge sums of money.  Some of the best things are free like this past weekend.  And many other great activities just cost your transportation such as Art Prize which goes on in nearby Grand Rapids.  Spending time with family and friends.

What about you, would you take some time to just recharge with your significant other if you were dying?

  1. Definitely will need a lot of time with my loved ones. We have been trying to aim for frugal weekends and I am just content watching a good show marathon on weekends or a bike ride around the neighborhood.

    • If it was warmer biking would have been nice! My wife enjoys watching shows too, we have a ton of dvds accumulated and then a bunch between her sisters as well.

Family time is definitely more important than anything else. That being said, I joined a challenge where I would write at least 500 words every day this week. I won’t post every day, but I will write every day. The good thing about just writing is that it doesn’t have to take too much time. I find that i spend more time editing than I do writing… well maybe not more time, but you know what I mean. I just have to write 500 words, it doesn’t have to make too much sense or be well written. That shouldn’t take too much time away from my honey.

    • 500 words isn’t bad at all! Easily do that throughout the day, although alot of the writing isn’t for myself.

Yes that would be high my my priority list, spending time with my wife and three children. I’d want a balance of quiet time and fun activists. It would be all about creating memories in my remaining days.

    • Hi Brain,

I think that is the key – balance and creating memories! I wouldn’t want to be constantly going all the time and miss out on just spending time with those who matter.

  4. I would love to take time off and enjoy family, but I with only life insurance through work, I have to be careful to remain employed… It’s a situation I will resolve in the next few weeks. Glad you got to have good family time and feel recharged :-)

    • Yea time off would be great… that is why I want financial independence, 40+ hour work weeks are long enough! Although I don’t feel like working part time would be a burden.
