Here we are with the first weekend in September! Time is flying by a bit too fast for me, as I have a few summer projects to get done. One problem is that is has been raining before the weekend so I can’t stain the deck. Second problem is I have been a bit lazy to get the back door on my garage taken care of. That and I am a bit nervous about doing that one, but it should go ok.
Anyways… my blog has made it around the inter-webs quite a bit recently. Recent mentions include the following:
RockStar Finance
Roadmap 2 Retire
Our Big Fat Wallet
Cash Syndrome
Debt Discipline
No More Waffles (Which unfortunately still is not loading with AT&T internet)
Million Dollar Ninja
Living at Home
Indebted Mom
I think that covers the recent mentions between 4 different articles getting some love on the inter-webs. So thank you all for the mentions!
My most recent articles this week include the following:
Net Worth Update – August
The Road to Financial Independence
Ok, time for the round up posts!
Balancing Ethics and Investing
Steve at the Kapitalust put together a very thought provoking post about the ethics of investing. Are you against smoking or some sort of medical research? Have a strong sense of being environmentally accountable? Then this post may help you in your investing decisions.
You Can’t Cut Your Way to Wealth
I like this post from Grayson over at Sprout Wealth. Earning more income really helps to build wealth… but you can get free cash flow by cutting expenses. The key is to grow your spread between income and expenses. Start investing or finding ways to grow that money you are saving. If you just put it in a savings account, he is right, you won’t grow your wealth.
Wants VS Needs: House Edition
Autumn @ the Barefoot Budgeter put together a great post to remind us the difference between wants and needs in regards to housing. My current house has ALOT more than the wife and I need. It still would be more than we need when we start to have a family. But the fact is once you realize the different between wants and needs you can start to value them monetarily which in theory you can then translate that to time. So is an extra bedroom or an extra bathroom worth another $20,000 one time plus heating, cooling, property taxes annually? Is that worth working another couple of years to acquire the extra $20,000 and have money saved up to pay the extra expenses perpetually? If so, then go for it, but do it knowingly.
New Game: Live Like you are Unemployed
I really liked this post from Zee at Work to Not Work. If you could live off the money you would receive if you were unemployed you would do quite well saving your money. Besides, if you do this regularly, it will be a great way to build up your funds and not have to work! I guess that is the whole point of working to not work, right?
Reasons I’m Happy I’m Not Going to FinCon
Well both Debt Debs and I are not going to FinCon, along with many other’s whom commented on her article. Hey there is also silver lining in anything! These reasons should inspire you to be able to overcome possible disappointment. That or give you a good way to laugh it off. You decide!
Well I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend so far! Busy here, but that is per the usual.
Update: I forgot to mention I updated my Liebstar Nomination page due to recent nominations from Debt Discipline and Million Dollar Ninja. I think I need to add the picture to my side bar so people know that I have been nominated, but I have added in their questions and answers to the of the post.
Glad to include your article, Kipp. Have a great wknd.

You enjoy the rest of your weekend as well!
Wow! That’s quite the exposure! Excellent
Thanks Kirsten! Now that you posted I think I remember you linking in on one of your recent articles as well. When I am not on a tablet but on a regular computer (and more awake) I will get that put in as well.
No problem, Kipp! Love you stuff, so I’m glad to share it with my readers.
Have a great weekend,
NMW
Thanks NMW! Did forwarding that e-mail to your hosting service keep the ball rolling or is it at a stand still?
Thanks for sharing some of these articles that I’ve not read yet. Wish you’re having a good weekend!
No problem Tawcan! It is going well, I need to get some stuff done… other than working on this week’s blog posts! Hope yours is going well!
You are all over the place, congrats!!! Thanks for including me this week :).
No problem Autumn! Yea, quite a few mentions recently, I think a few were the week before as well.
Thanks for the mention Kipp, I really appreciate it! You’re making quite the splash all over the PF community these days, keep up the great work!
-Zee
Thanks Zee! You keep up those awesome articles too!
Wow, Kipp! You’re doing awesome! Congrats on all the links and especially Rockstar! Thanks so much for linking my No FINCON post! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Sorry I didn’t get by until now, I’ve been without internet access this weekend (at Dad’s cottage cleaning up mouse $hit).
That is fine Debs. I got it up a bit later on Saturday as well since I was busy. Not busy cleaning mouse $hit tho. But Saturday morning we were doing pics with my 7 month old nephew, who does produce $hit.
Sorry you can’t make it to FinCon! Maybe next year!
That is ok Holly, I just started blogging a couple of months ago so I wasn’t really planning on it. I hope it is a bit further north next year!
Seems like it’s been a good week for you with mentions around the web. Congrats again on the Liebster!
Thanks Kalen! Yea was busy for a bit with mentions, I just need to keep up with good articles I suppose!
Thanks for the mention Kipp! I’m not going to FinCon this year, but let’s make sure everyone who’s missing out this year will be at next because I sure am planning on going!
No problem Steve! I would like to check it out in the future, so we shall see about next year! I am sure it will approach very quickly.
Congrats getting your name out there. Esp sites like Rockstar Finance. Should be a nice traffic bump!
Thanks Jay! It was a nice bump in traffic! So far most of my traffic is from Jason @ Dividend Mantra, we will see if that continues a year into blogging but he has a wide lead!
Nice work on the RockStar Finance mention!
Thanks Dan! It was definitely a boost in traffic that week!
